Testing, testing and more testing

Screenshot of overview in Basecamp

Jason, Dave and I are doing a ton of testing now. The way we do it is comb the site and app for any bugs or problems and enter them on a to-do in our Basecamp area. As Jason and Dave sort them out, they just check off their to-dos.

  1. I can’t praise Trac too much for keeping track of bugs and the state of your system: http://www.edgewall.com/trac/. It is a bug tracker, wiki and web interface to subversion.

  2. Looks like a good idea there Ryan, how many bugs have you found so far out of interest?

  3. We have Trac installed (and it’s hooked up to Subversion), but it’s not nearly as easy to use as Basecamp.

  4. James, there’s not a lot of bugs really, just a lot of “tweaks”.

  5. I just started using Basecamp 2 or 3 days ago after reading the Getting Real ebook and I’m in love with it! My productivity seems to have gone 5 times higher just by using that awesome todo lists feature. Even a big time procrastinator like me is finally starting to get things done.

The messages feature is also great. Although I’m a solo developer I’m still using messages to keep track of new ideas, decisions, nailing down my specs, etc.
I can go on and on about all the great things in Basecamp but I’ll stop now..

  6. I’m a Basecamp lover too… been using it for over a year now and my clients/contractors love it too.

You guys should put an affiliate link and you could probably get some decent credit considering the traffic you have here.

Can’t wait till Amigo launches either… what’s the new launch date?

  7. I also use Basecamp todo lists for bug reports. It’s so easy and handy.

  8. we used basecamp for bugs but it was slightly unmanageable to a certain extent… I have a beta account at www.tailshq.com and it seems to be really useful… basecamp is good for quick stuff when it comes to software but for intense bug tracking…. you definitely need like fogbugz or tails…..

hey ryan, are you going to be issuing 1099’s (U.S.) to newsletter owners….how are you handling that because the contractor/tax issues are different everywhere. If it’s a corp you are paying then it’s no big deal but for an individual there is a lot of hassle.

  9. Ken,

At least for people receiving $$ in the US, I don’t believe Heyamigo has any burden of paperwork. However, the person receiving the funds does, and needs to file either form 940 or 940-EZ.. At least, this is what my accountant mentioned to me.

Check out http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=131637,00.html it gives a good explanation of the tax you have to pay, called the FUTA tax.

  10. Ken, thanks for bringing that to our attention. I’ll have our accountant check it out.

Michael, thanks as well, for the tip. I’ll point our accountant in that direction.
