Kenya Can’t Stop Amigo

Ryan in Kenya

I’m currently in Kenya, just outside Nairobi in the beautiful Rift Valley. (I was lucky enough to be invited to do some consulting on web strategy for an African wildlife conservation web site.)

It’s amazing how all I need is a web connection (in this case a satellite connection), and I can still to manage the building of Amigo. Let the work continue! Jason has just cranked out some more comps for the website. Here’s a sneak peak at the Buzz page (I’ve changed the strapline, obviously).

  1. Since you previously mentioned that Amigo some hows accepts money then pays other people, when I saw the posts heading stating:

“Kenya Can’t Stop Amigo”, I immediately thought you were referring to all of those bogus e-mails from Kenya’s “prince” who needs my bank account number so that he can hide millions in my account.

After reading the post, and realizing you were not talking about how somehow Amigo prevents money fraud, I was sadden :(

  2. Do they pay for your flights and accommodation? What kind of rates do you give for a gig like that. (dreams of being an international man of travel, stopping occasionally to take in the scenery and solve a web problem while romancing a beautiful woman before moving on. Kind of like the Littlest Hobo but with less legs.).

  3. Hope your having a nice time over there Ryan, it’s quite amusing how your still working on Amigo over there also, no rest for the wicked! Oh another thing i noticed today was that there is a type of shop here in the UK (not sure if you are aware of it) called Amigo (at a train station, its a snack/coffe shop i think), the logo etc isn’t the same, but still could this create some kind of problem?

  4. James - I noticed one of them at the Excel Centre

It’s alright, they’re owned by Compass Group. A tiny company who would never sue…

The logo isn’t wholly different, either

They flew me out and have been taking good care of me. I didn’t charge them any consulting fee, as I really believe in what they’re doing.

I think I’ve seen that same shop. (In Reading?) I’m not worried, as it’s a completely different field (food service). However, I might run it by Jason.

    The satellite connection is expensive?

Apparently, but I’m not paying for it. Our hosts are.

Did you have to get vaccinated before going to Kenya?

    You bet - four jabs!
